Equipment

  • 1 Standard Mixer I use my KitchenAid

Ingredients

Proofing the Yeast:

  • 1 cup warm water 108 degrees F
  • 1 ½ teaspoons yeast active dry
  • 1 ½ teaspoons sugar

Bread:

  • 2 tablespoons melted butter plus enough to brush on top of bread when finished
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ¼ cup evaporated milk or regular milk if you don’t have evaporated
  • 3 to 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • Butter to grease bread pan

Instructions

  • In a small bowl, add the ingredients in the proofing the yeast section. Let sit for 5 - 7 minutes or until it starts to bubble.
  • In a KitchenAid mixer, combine melted butter, sugar, salt and evaporated milk. Pour in the yeast mixture once it’s bubbly and ready. Mix together until combined (don’t overmix).
  • Add 2 cups of flour and mix and then add the remaining flour ½ cup at a time until the dough no longer sticks to the sides of the bowl.
  • Once all mixed together, add dough to a large greased bowl and let rise for 1 hour to 1 ½ hours.
  • Once the dough has doubled in size, punch it down and knead it on a floured surface. Continue kneading for 3 minutes and then place in a greased bread pan.
  • Cover the pan with a towel and let rise for another 30 minutes, or until the bread has grown large in the bread pan.
  • While the bread is rising again, preheat the oven to 375°F.
  • Once bread is ready, place in the middle rack on the oven and bake for 25 minutes. After the 25 minutes is up, cover the top of the bread pan with foil and bake for another 3 to 5 minutes.
  • Take the bread out of the oven and butter the top of the bread liberally. Let cool for 10 minutes before slicing. Slice and enjoy with butter or your favorite jam!
